Three firefighters were injured in Boca Raton this afternoon due to lightning strikes brought on by another bought of dangerous weather. Reports say that the firefighters were responding to a backyard fire in a residential neighborhood when the strike happened. Officials say firefighters were standing under an eave of the home while extinguishing the fire and when they stepped out to retrieve a hose, lightning struck in close proximity thus leading to their injuries.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue officials say that two people, who’s names have not been released, experienced fairly minor injuries, mostly affecting their hearing, however the third was transported to Delray Medical Center after having a seizure related to his injuries. There are no reports yet on their condition.
The storm cell emerging from the west has dropped quite a large amount of rain throughout the afternoon and will continue until early Wednesday morning. This storm is leaving Boca Raton just a little bit soggy this afternoon, adding to the rain that caused serious flooding in parts of Mizner Park and Boca Towne Center Mall. Meteorologists in the area have put Southeastern Palm Beach County under a flood advisory and have suggested that many stay indoors until conditions improve.
