On 11/6/2017, in Wellington (Wellington Landings Middle School), Boca Raton Community Middle School had a 10-1 lead going into the 4th inning. The sun was setting and time was running out. In a last effort, Wellington Landings scored 4 runs before popping up the last out to first baseman, 8th grader Charly Gullotta ending the game with a final score of 10-5. The team had a record of 12 wins 1 loss for the season, winning 12 in a row. Coach Barb Vlahakis was elated. Peter Slack the BRCMS Principal traveled the 20+ miles to see the girls win.
This season, the girls winning streak included, Omni Middle, Eagles Landing Middle, Loggers Run Middle, Don Estridge Middle and Carver Middle, Delays due to Hurricane Irma extended the schedule. One week there were 4 make up games, Each game is 90 minutes and played 30 minutes after school ends til 6 pm.
Two trophies were handed out yesterday to the coach for winning District and County which immediately posted to friends and family on Facebook and Twitter. The coach and the girls names will go on a new banner/ flag that will be hung in the gymnasium for years to come.
