Its not everyday that a mother can say her child made its grand entrance into the world from the inside of a car, but for Paula D’Amore, thats exactly what happened. D’Amore woke Thursday morning with intense contractions and knew that her baby was soon to be on its way. After calling her Doula, Lindsay Ripley, photographer Paulina Splechta and midwife Christine Hackshaw, Paula and husband Joseph began to enact the steps she planned in her birth plan.
After taking a warm bath, D’Amore felt her contractions becoming closer together. “They were like two to three minutes apart at that time.” Paula stated in an interview with WPTV . After a period of time the pain was so intense the group decided to bring Paula to the hospital. With Boca Raton Regional Hospital 30-minutes away, the group tried to get D’Amore to the maternity wing as fast as possible, but beautiful baby D’Amore had other plans.
After arriving at Boca Regional, D’Amore felt the familiar feeling to push. With little time to spare, her husband ran into the hospital and notified security to get doctors and nurses as his wife was in labor. Upon his return, he witnessed the “crowning moment” of his daughters birth. “I ran back out to the truck open the door and there was my baby crowning. And all I could do was grab the head and stand there.” Joseph stated. While midwives are trained to handle birthing procedures in a number of different methods, this one stands out to Hackshaw as the first birth in a parking lot.
Through the coaching of her midwife, Mrs. D’Amore was able to safely deliver her child, Daniella D’Amore, at 8lbs 6oz. While the methods and location may have been unconventional, the child was reported to be in perfect health! Photographer Paulina Splechta was able to record and photograph the entire process, something that the family is sure to remember for years to come.
