Florida Scientists Given $9,000,000 Grant to Study Aging Process
Jupiter, FL. Scientists from the Scripps Research Institute and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine got a $9 million grant from the National Institute of Aging. They are conducting a 5 year study, it will focus on individual genetic differences that may contribute to breakthrough therapeutic approaches targeting the aging process itself. They are hoping to limit the negative effects that aging has on the body, both physically and mentally. It is expected that the number of people over the age of 60 will double over the next 20 years, making this research both important and time sensitive.
Dolphins Beat the Jets; 28-31
The Dolphins were trailing most of the game, but managed to come back. The Jets choked and failed worse than I did asking Kim Covert to Junior Prom. Jets record is 3 wins 4 losses. Dolphin’s record is now 4 wins 2 losses. They play the Ravens in Baltimore on Thursday the 26th. More more info on the game click here.
Deputy Stabbed in Edgewater
26 Year old Brittany Bonin was arguing with her ex-boyfriend about some old gifts that were purchased, seeking monetary compensation. In my opinion she went about it all wrong, screaming and throwing her arms about eventually lightning her ex’s house on fire (allegedly). Police were called and deputy Cliff Williams took the call. When he tried to subdue Brittany she stabbed him. Thankfully the wound was not fatal, Williams is expected to make a full recovery. Brittany is being held without bond on charges of: aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree arson, tampering with a witness and battery.

A 23 year old man and his girlfriend were getting into his car on west 28th street when a unknown male opened fire on the couple. The man was fatally wounded and the young woman was taken tot he hospital with “non-lethal injuries”. It is believed that 2 vehicles traveling together were involved in the murder. A silver Nissan Juke followed the dark-colored Dodge Charger the gunman was in. They haven’t released any additional information about a suspect other than that it is a man. Police ask anyone with information to call them at 561-845-4123 or call Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.
More Than $1,000,000,000 Given Out After the Storm for Food Assistance
Irma is officially one of the most expensive hurricanes to ever hit the United States. The devastation left behind has many Floridians still trying to rebuild the Sunshine State, officials say they have distributed more than $1 billion worth of food assistance following Hurricane Irma. DCF has received over 700,000 applications for those asking for help.
Pilot from Daytona Sets World Record for Flying Around the World
30 year old pilot, Shaesta Waiz, has accomplished something substantial; a 145-day, 28,000+ mile flight that set a new world record. Her adventure covered 5 continents, 22 countries and dozens of cities. She made her way into the record books by flying solo around the world in a single engine aircraft. Her adventure was almost 6 months in length and started in Daytona Beach. Waiz claims she’s terrified of flying, I call shenanigans on that.
That’s some good news, some bad news and some sad news. How about something uplifting?
Uplifting News of the Week!
All five living former US Presidents make a rare appearance together to support the victims of the hurricanes that hit a variety of states and countries including Florida. It shows unity and compassion after a week in which Barack Obama and George W Bush broke an unwritten rule to deliver implicit criticism of the present occupant of the White House.
“The event, Deep From The Heart: The One America Appeal, featured a host of country and gospel music stars. It was launched last month after Hurricane Harvey battered Texas and expanded when Hurricane Irma hit Florida and Hurricane Maria devastated parts of the Caribbean, together causing several hundred deaths and billions of dollars in damage.” – The Guardian
