Imagine biting into a doughnut with a cotton candy, funnel cake texture. Sounds good, right? This is the exact feeling you’ll get when you eat a doughnut at Nani’s Dough located at 1622 S Federal Hwy, Boynton Beach, FL 33435 in Bond and Smolders.
Boca News had a chance to chat with Nani Edry, the owner of Nani’s Dough. Nani’s a South Florida native with an outside the box style. His dream had always been to open a bakery, so, when an app he started was bought out, he decided to come back to sunny South Florida and pursue his true passion: doughnuts.
The company started as a baking experiment. Nani experimented with basic doughnut recipes, working crazy hours in hopes of creating the perfect doughnut. Let me tell you, he’s succeeded!
In the beginning, Nani’s was a one man show and remained a very well kept secret. Nani set up an ordering portal online and would deliver the delectable treats to people’s homes. He also marketed his product through Instagram, showing off his artistically decorated doughnuts. He explained that he received many orders through this social media platform. Business skyrocketed, he started garnering a good reputation, and soon saw interest from local coffee shops and bakeries.
Nani’s partnership with Bond and Smolders grew out of his need for an industrial size kitchen. Nani was planning on entering the very exclusive Wynwood Doughnut competition. He needed to make 1,000 doughnuts, a feat no home kitchen could accomplish, even with an extra talented baker.
He serendipitously stumbled into Bond and Smolders bakery to grab a cup of coffee. He spoke to the owner, dropped off doughnuts, and just like that, Nani was offered a storefront. He dropped out of the competition and took on his new business full time.
Bond and Smolders is the perfect home for Nani’s dough. It has a very open layout. Customers can peer into the open kitchen and watch bakers create while they order and eat. The high ceilings and the mural along the back wall provide an inviting, modern atmosphere for you to enjoy the treats that await.
I asked Nani about his famous Bacon doughnut. Unbeknownst to me, there are three kinds! The first is called the Maple Bacon, which is—you guessed it—maple glazed with big shards of bacon. The second, the Shikaka, includes white chocolate ganache and Cayan candy bacon. The final doughnut is an ode to the great Elvis Pressley called the King, which has peanut butter whipped cream and is stuffed with grape jelly and bacon sticking out of the center. Trust me, these three alone are all worth a try
Make sure to get to Nani’s early, though, because they sell out fast, even after preparing 300-400 doughnuts everyday. They were almost sold out when I came in to interview Nani at 11:30 am. You can order ahead of time online if you need doughnuts for an event. So, if you’re not an early riser, you aren’t necessarily out of luck!
Boca News believes the doughnuts at Nani’s Dough are life changing. They are also, very surprisingly, extremely healthy, with under five ingredients in the dough and under 1,000 calories each. Don’t take my word for it – try them out and taste the magic for yourself.
