M.E.A.T. Boca
980 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton | 561-419-2600
Featured on the hit television show, Diners Drive-Ins, and Dives, the M.E.A.T. franchise has made its way to Boca Raton. M.E.A.T. eatery in Boca continues the legacy of high-quality, handmade food that began at mile marker 88 in the Florida Keys.
This burger joint is certainly every carnivore’s dream but isn’t your typical burger joint; M.E.A.T. smokes all of their meats onsite, brands each bun with their infamous logo, and even creates their own condiments from scratch. It’s no surprise M.E.A.T. been previously voted “Best Burger in Florida”, “11 Best Burger Restaurants in Florida”, and “10 Best Burger Joints in Broward and Palm Beach”. Top off your burger cravings with craft beer, micro-brewed sodas, duck fat French fries, Nutella ice cream, or one of their savory “adult milkshakes.”
Tucker Duke’s
1658 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton | 561-717-8153
Tucker Duke’s, winner of the Peoples Choice award for Best Burger in Boca, is well known for their Insane Tucker Duke’s Burger. A half-pound of Florida Seminole Pride beef, stacked with a leaning tower of onion rings, mixed greens, tomatoes, Tucker sauce (a Louisiana remoulade), cheddar and American cheeses, all sandwiched between onion-studded rolls – this burger is mountainous – to say the least.
This southern-style comfort food restaurant isn’t only famous for their uniquely insane beef burgers but they also offer a delish veggie burger as well. The Sami, a chickpea burger served with pickled vegetables, cilantro mayo, whipped feta, spring mix, and tomato. Tucker Duke’s is named after the infamous chef, Brian Cartenuto’s, 110-pound Great Dane Lab. Most of the 10 saucy burgers are named after fellow friends’ and customers’ dogs. If you’re looking for the down south vibe to accompany a satisfying burger – head over to Tucker Duke’s.
Shake Shack
University Commons, 1400 Glades Rd, Boca Raton | 561-923-0847
“Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in Manhattan to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. In 2004, a permanent kiosk opened in the park: Shake Shack was born. This modern day “roadside” burger stand serves up the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more. The cart was quite the success, with Shack fans lined up daily for three summers.” This fast-casual chain restaurant has mastered the concept of “keep it simple”, with their perfected traditional burgers.
Shake Shack offers antibiotic and hormone free cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers or a hamburger, single or double. Their patties are quarter pounders made of a blend of Angus beef, along with a vegetarian burger made with portobello mushrooms.
An added bonus: Dogs are allowed in outside seating areas. They even offer a Shackburger biscuit for your favorite pup, comprised of peanut butter sauce and vanilla custard. As mentioned in the name, Shake Shack has a variety of delicious homemade custards and shakes. Besides who doesn’t love a greasy burger chased with an ice-cold shake?
Charm City Burger Company
1136 E Hillsboro Blvd, Deerfield Beach | 954-531-0300
Last, but certainly not least – there’s no way we could celebrate our favorite burger spots without giving a shout out to Charm City Burger Company. Located right on the border of Boca, in Deerfield Beach, Charm City is positioned not too far from the intercoastal, it’s no surprise Charm City is a top pick for the locals.
Don’t let the outside hole-in-the-wall appearance fool you. Charm City maintains its retro-meets-trendy feel with its uniquely designed menu. When it opened seven years ago, Charm City’s motto was “five-star chefs, five dollar burgers.” with everything made from scratch, including sauces like volcano, truffle aioli, garlic tzatziki, cranberry mustard, and their signature Charm sauce.
Charm City has won the local Burger Battle for three years: 2009, 2012 and 2014. The Big Sloppy is my personal favorite, with a monstrous pile of double meat, double bacon, double cheese, hash browns, and a fried egg. If you’re looking for a high-class burger – The Emperor, which combines an American Kobe beef melt with sauteed mushrooms, Swiss and truffle aioli – is a safe bet.
Above all else, Charm City never fails to satisfy our sweet tooth with its interesting spin on traditional desserts and shakes. The Carnie dessert is comprised of Twinkie fritters, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and dusted with powdered sugar. If you’re prone to end a meal with a mouthwatering shake then Charm City is the place to go. The Binge is made up of made with Blue Bell ice cream with an addictive blend of caramel and sea salt. If you’re leaving a sun-filled day at the beach and looking to cool off and fill up with a banging burger – Charm City is the place to go.
