A former student armed with a rifle stalked the halls of a Florida school, breaking windows and shooting terrified students in a massacre that left 17 people dead Wednesday, authorities said.
The suspect, Nikolas Cruz, 19, had once been expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School over disciplinary problems, Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said, without providing specifics.
Cruz allegedly turned on the fire alarm, sending many students running outside, where he fired shot after shot before following people inside the building, officials said.

Shortly before 5:45 a.m. Thursday, the young man accused in a shooting that left more than a dozen people dead was escorted into Broward’s Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. Nikolas Cruz was surrounded by Broward Sheriff’s deputies who walked him inside the facility.
Brightline train hits car stopped on tracks in Boca Raton
A man is in the hospital after a Brightline train hit his vehicle that was stopped on the tracks, according to Boca Raton police.
Jessica Desir, public information officer for city police, said at about 8 p.m. officers were called to the intersection of Camino Real and South Dixie Highway where a train hit a vehicle. Witnesses told police that a car was stopped on the tracks at a red light when the gates came down. Police said the unidentified elderly driver could not make it out of the vehicle and was hit.
Bridal shop in Boca Raton responds to questions of her store closing
The owner of a Bridal shop in Boca Raton says she is closing down. This comes after customers were trying to get ahold of the owner for weeks, wondering if they were going to get their dresses.
Brittany Burns owns a Bridal shop but sent out an email Monday night saying her store was closing and she was moving home with her family.
